Bypass blocked Websites in Firefox, Chrome and Opera

Even though the days of the GEMA ban on YouTube and other major sites are probably over, you still can’t see all the videos and streams there. We’ll explain how you can bypass any major website, like NBC, YoutTube, Hulu, HBO or Netflix. You will need to bypass a block if you want to see a live stream. Also, some videos on the platform are not released for every country, so we’re out of Germany or Austria again. And finally there are the movies for which there is an age limit and which you can only watch if you register. Each of these blocks can be bypassed. Read here how it works.

Bypassing locks – how does that work?

YouTube actually only knows two types of blocking: On the one hand, the age ban, which can be circumvented by registration or a trick. On the other hand, certain countries are locked out, while others can watch the videos without any problems. Even the so-called GEMA block did not block a video for everyone in general, but only for visitors from Germany. From other countries the little film could be watched without any problems.

So if you want to bypass a YouTube ban, you have to make the video platform believe that you’re from another country. And there are different options for that. The simplest option is a plugin. Such browser extensions are available for almost every browser. They plug into the program and only become active when you open YouTube. As soon as you are not allowed to see a video, you can bypass this YouTube country lock by routing the video through a proxy server abroad. For you there will be a small delay and then you can still see the blocked YouTube video. That’s how it works with the GEMA lock: As long as you seem to be from another country for YouTube, such videos will be displayed to you without any problems. In another article, we’ll explain how you can bypass the YouTube age ban without logging in.

Bypass country lock in Firefox, Chrome, Opera

If a browser is plugin-capable, i.e. can be equipped with new functions through extensions, then there is certainly a plugin to circumvent a YouTube lock. This problem exists internationally and the demand is correspondingly high.

Something problematic is that there is a kind of race between YouTube and the developers of the plugins. As a result, such extensions don’t permanently trick YouTube-blocks. Over time, the video giant notices that someone is using a trick and blacklists the corresponding proxy servers. Then you have to wait some time until the plugin providers have solved the problem.

Bypass block in Firefox

There are several plugins for Firefox that you can use to bypass a YouTube lock. It is recommended to go to the plugin page and see the current ratings there. Then you can usually find out beforehand if the plugin is currently working. At the moment you can only find a working free plugin for Firefox.

YouTube Unblocker Plus works pretty well and is also fast. As soon as you are on a YouTube page whose content is blocked for you, the plugin will work automatically. You will briefly see a hint and then you can see the video normally.

There are also lots of good plugins for Google Chrome. When searching for a YouTube unblocker or YouTube proxy, however, you will be listed primarily fee-based services. But there is also a really good free extension called ProxFlow, which does exactly what it is supposed to do.

It also automatically detects when a YouTube video has been blocked and loads the video via a proxy server. It is short to see the unspectacular message above and then loads the video after all.

Bypass YouTube blockade in Opera with the built-in VPN

For some time now Opera has brought its own VPN with it, the so-called Opera VPN. A VPN is also a kind of redirection via a proxy server. It is usually used to surf anonymously or to guarantee secure communication. The Opera VPN is built into the browser and only needs to be activated in order to bypass country blocks in YouTube or Netflix.

How to activate the Opera VPN:

  1. Click on the top of the menu and switch to the settings. Optionally you can do this with the key combination Alt + P.
  2. In the settings, click on the menu item Privacy & Security on the left.
  3. Scrolls down to the entryVPN and sets a check mark at Activate VPN.
  4. Now you can see the small blue button VPN on the left at the beginning of the address bar.
  5. Now click on this button. This will open a small window.
  6. Below you can see the virtual location. For most YouTube videos you should switch to United States.

However, this VPN proxy collects data about your surfing behavior. This is the price you have to pay for a good, fast and otherwise free proxy. If you don’t need permanent proxy filtering, you can deactivate it in the settings.
